OpenAI Gains Traction with Enterprises, Rivals Lag Behind

According to financial technology company Ramp’s transaction data, OpenAI seems to be surging past competitors in the competition for enterprise spending on artificial intelligence.

According to

Ramp’s AI Index

This estimate measures the uptake of AI product adoption among businesses by utilizing Ramp’s card and bill payment information. As of April, approximately 32.4% of U.S. companies had begun paying for access to OpenAI’s AI models, platforms, and tools. This represents an increase from 18.9% in January and 28% in March.

Ramp’s data indicates that competitors have found it challenging to achieve comparable advancements. As of last month, only 8% of companies subscribed to Anthropic’s offerings, down from 4.6% in January. Additionally, Google AI subscriptions dropped precipitously from 2.3% in February to just 0.1% in April.

“Ara Kharzian, an economist at Ramp, noted in his statement that OpenAI is acquiring customers more rapidly than any other company within Ramp’s platform,” he wrote.

Our […] Ramp AI Index indicates that the adoption of OpenAI by businesses is increasing at a quicker pace compared to rival model companies.

To clarify, Ramp’s AI Index is not entirely flawless. It analyzes a subset of corporate spending data from approximately 30,000 businesses. Additionally, since this index recognizes AI offerings through business names and item descriptions, it probably overlooks expenditures categorized under different expense categories.

Still, the figures suggest that OpenAI is strengthening its grip on the large and growing

enterprise market for AI

.
